Increasingly, people want to pay in advance. This removes financial burdon from your family and helps protect you from asset testing.

  1. We use the official FDANZ plan
    The prepayment is held in trust by the FDANZ Funeral Trust.
    The money you pay into the FDANZ Funeral Trust for your pre-arranged funeral is held in trust for you or your nominee.
    Established by the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand, which represents over 80% of New Zealand's funeral firms, the FDANZ Funeral Trust operates under a trust deed. All trust funds are managed taking into account the appropriate risk profile for pre-paid funeral funds.
    The Trustees take advice from an independent actuary prior to setting the investment profile for the Trust. The funds are then diversified into a portfolio of on-call deposits and term deposits of varying duration. The trust deed requires all of the funds in the Trust to be held by a Bank that is registered with the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

  2. It helps protect your pension
    Pre-paid funerals are currently excluded from Government asset testing for long-term residential care, so the amount you pay towards the funeral plan (to a maximum of $10,000) does not get assessed as part of your total assets.

  3. Pre-payment helps to provide peace of mind
    You pay for the funeral now, to help relieve your family of the financial burden.

  4. Who knows what you want?
    You make the choices – the music, the readings, the venue and so on – and we will record these so that your wishes are known when the time comes

    Your wishes are carefully documented when you plan or pre-pay a funeral with Lychgate Funeral Home, and you receive a copy for your records. However, you are able to change any of these arrangements at a later date if you wish.
