Planting a tree is a wonderful way to remember, honour, and
celebrate the life of someone we love who has died. It also
provides a greener environment for future generations to enjoy.
Trees
cost $150 which covers the cost of the tree, its planting,
initial care, and assists with maintenance over its lifetime.
Native and exotic trees including kowhai, kauri, rewarewa,
alder, ginkgo and ash are available. The Commemorative Tree
Scheme is administered by the Wellington City Council.
Individual
plaques are not permitted for maintenance and other reasons,
but participants receive a certificate suitable for framing
together with a photo showing the tree, its location, and
general information about the tree species.
The
first trees were planted in early September 2004 at Willowbank
Park, Tawa. Peter Cohen and Andrew Patterson of Lychgate Funeral
Home who have been supportive of the Commemorative Tree Scheme,
were present at it’s launch as pictured below.
