A
permanent memorial is a focal point for remembering and evidence
for future generations of a life lived.
Memorials are either plaques or headstones. These are sometimes
made of bronze but more often they are made of granite, due
to its lasting quality.
Memorials can be placed on burial plots, ashes ground plots
or niches, Returned Service Persons plots, memorial walls
or at the site of a death (eg: mountain range or road side).
When choosing a memorial or temporary marker, check with your
funeral director or monumental mason, that it complies with
the cemetery specifications and bylaws, and whether you need
permission from the authority which owns the land.
